Newark, New JerseyThe New Jersey Titans franchise is just weeks old, but they have already added one of the leagues top scorers in Dany Heatley. In a random drawing, the Titans won and elected to take the first selection in the RHL20 Dispersal Draft. After deep consideration of all available options, the team decided to add a proven and gifted goal scorer. General Manager Dan Sullivan had this to say about the first and newest player of the New Jersey Titans. "We are very pleased to have a player like Dany Heatley on our team. He brings tremendous goal scoring ability to our roster and is a player we can certainly look towards for leadership. He seemed as excited as we were to be the first player in Titans history and we look forward to great things with Dany."
On a smaller note, the Titans also added forward Stephane Veilleux via the Dispersal draft with the 25th overall pick (First selection in second round) and it appears that the Titans are done with the Dispersal and will now turn their attention to the upcoming Expansion and Entry drafts.
There were cheaper and younger centers available, but there certainly wasn't a more offensive player. And in the RHL, a premier goal-scorer is a huge commodity. An excellent way to start your team.
ReplyDeleteWasn't Heatley taken by the Crystals in the RHL16 dispersal draft when they first got into the league 4 seasons ago? If that's the case, it brings along a strange case of symmetry.

ReplyDeleteDany Heatley, first overall selection of the St. Pete's Wicked Ale (still one of the greatest names in RHL history, along with the Brooklyn Geddy Lees) in RHL8, Heatley made his RHL debut in RHL12 and played four seasons in St. Pete's setting franchise records for goals, assists, and points.
After RHL15, the Wicked Ale disband. Three teams enter the league, including the CRY and the COU. In the RHL16 dispersal draft, the Crystals select Dany Heatley second overall... one pick after the Cougars tabbed Martin Brodeur (he of the first article posted here) first overall. It's a small RHL world after all. :)
